The sticks were slappin’ and the slurpies were slurpin’ January 13 - 15 at the Leitrim Arena. It was the Leitrim Minor Hockey Association’s Tournament for Novice level. Boys and girls aged 7-8 years old were cheered on by their coaches, parents, families and spectators over the three day event.

The Rotary Club of Ottawa South sponsored a slushie for each participant. RCOS also held a draw for 6 tickets to see the Ottawa 67s. Community Director Leo Saracino and PResidenet Vaughn McKinney saw this as a great opportunity to encourage an active lifestyle, congratulate the kids and mingle with the community. "We raise a lot of money for local charities and that is very meaningful, but it's also important to get out into the community and interact with our neighbours," stated Saracino.

The kids would agree! they certainly enjoyed the free treat, and many parents appreciated the gesture. RCOS members worked a shift over the weekend to greet kids and parents, and answer any questions on Rotary. Thanks to all who helped out and especially to Leo Saracino for organizing our involvement.
