It was a great afternoon and the children were thrilled to have their very own dictionary. The four Rotarians had lots of fun too!

Today's Speaker - Jessica Kennelly, Communications Director, Findlay Creek Community Association.

The Findlay Creek Community Association (FCCA) is a volunteer-run organization that supports and advocates on behalf of residents, businesses and groups in our beautiful city of Ottawa. The FCCA is run by a volunteer Board of Directors that meet regularly to work on behalf of the community and to highlight our local business members through advertisements on social media, promotions at local events and publications in newsletters.

FCCA will be on the front lines of important, social, cultural, environmental and community issues. We respond in many ways to the needs of the Findlay Creek residents and businesses; fostering and supporting them to fully and actively engage in community and civic life.

This happens through the provision of social, recreation and sports programs, through neighbourhood improvement initiatives, and through direct input into planning and traffic issues, and other public affairs.

FCCA assists in mobilizing citizens and local resources to make a vital contribution to community life – enriching the quality of life and well being of our community.

FCCA will provide a shared sense of citizenship and inclusion. Findlay Creek residents have benefited from FCCA, which is an anchor for community life.

The community of Findlay Creek is growing quickly and Jessica and her team are looking to connect/partner with other clubs/organizations to offer more programs to their community members. We discussed three areas in which we may be able to assist:

1. Start an Interact Club, a Rotary Club for young people ages 5-18. Guide and direct them to learn about 'service above self'.

2. Co-organize an Environmental Fair. Invite other groups in the area who have an environmental focus.

3. Help plant a community garden

There was great discussion around these areas and we will have more conversations with Jessica and the FCCA to move one or all of these initiatives forward and to assist in other ways as well.
