BGC Ottawa Celebrates 100 Years and Plays Golf with RCOS
Jonelle Istead,
Chief Advancement Officer at BGC Ottawa
We were really happy to have Jonelle Istead and Annie Premachuk from BGC Ottawa join us today. The Boys and Girls Club Ottawa is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023. Jonelle commented that, as today is International Women's Day, the first female member of BGC-Ottawa was admitted in the 1970s. And now, over 5,000 male and female youth interact with BGC Ottawa every day.
Myriad programs and resources are available, from after-school homework support, creative art programs, recreational and competitive sports, social recreation, mental health support, youth outreach programs... there is a wealth of activity, support and resource.
Entrance to the clubs and participation in the many programs is free for the boys and girls. Over 50% of the organization's funds are raised by individual donations; which presents an incredible challenge every year to continue to provide these essential services for Ottawa's youth.
While Jonelle and Annie were here, RCOS presented a cheque to BGC Ottawa. We're anxious to raise much more for the worthy organization at this years golf tournament.
