District Foundation Day & Dinner will take place on November 18th at the Ramada Inn in Cornwall. 'ALL Club Project Fair', featuring any type of project AS WELL AS our in person Q & A for those clubs pursuing District or Global Grants. Evening activity will culminate with a celebration of 'All Things Foundation' - including club awards, personal recognition and a dynamic speaker, Garrett Milne, past Global Grant Scholar!!
Saturday, November 25th to celebrate the "Charter Night" of Rotary Montreal Cedars. Formal attire and Black-tie dinner will take place at Le Westin Montreal 270 Saint Antoine West, Montreal.
The D7040 Friendship Exchange Committee is pleased to inform you that
we have an invitation to be hosted by District 4510 Brazil in Assisi, Marilia
and Bauru, from Feb 10– Feb 24, 2024. The maximum number is 12
people.
If you wish to tour Brazil either before or after the friendship exchange, it
can be arranged through a Rotarian from Bauru, Mr. Alonso Campoi. His travel
company is Brazilian Travel and can be contacted at alonso@brtravel.tur.br He organizes most of the travel for Rotary’s International Travel and Hosting Fellowship (ITHF).

Dictionaries for Life
On Tuesday, November 7th Jeff Sirrs, Tom Batchellor, Perpetua Siloya-Mulikita and Rosemary Parker delivered dictionaries to Grade 3 students at Charles Hulse School in Alta Vista. It was a great afternoon and the children were thrilled to have their very own dictionary. The four Rotarians had lots of fun too! Jeff Sirrs enjoyed celebrating his birthday while doing something special for a group of children. All the books that were available were not distributed. Jeff Sirrs would like to distribute the remaining books to another school. He will give us the details when another school is selected.
President Kateri opened the meeting with a beautiful tribute to our soldiers.
This week we observe National Indigenous Veterans Day (Nov. 8 th ), and
Remembrance Day (Nov.11 th ). These special commemorative days
recognize and celebrate the courage and sacrifice of all who served our
country in times of conflict and acknowledge the peace they arduously
fought to achieve.
Indigenous Veterans Day, first observed in Manitoba in 1994, was
established as a way of honouring First Nations, Inuit and Métis Veterans
previously unrecognized at official Remembrance Day ceremonies. On this
day, we honour the important contributions of Indigenous Peoples in
service to Canada in times of war, conflict and peace.
November 11 is observed as Remembrance Day in Canada, and in
Commonwealth of Nations. Remembrance Day is an opportunity to
recognize and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. A
reminder of those who did not survive the hostilities of war and to remind us
of the rights, privileges and freedom we enjoy today.
Many veterans and peacekeepers know the price we pay for our freedom,
and they want all Canadians to share in this understanding. They are
passing the torch of remembrance to us, the people of Canada, to ensure
that the memory of their efforts and sacrifices will not die with them, and
that an appreciation of the values they fight for will live on in all Canadians.
Today on Remembrance Day and every day of the year we will remember,
So this week, on these days of Remembrance, we give thanks:
For peacekeepers, for those who serve on the front lines, and those who
protest and march; for those who volunteer and those who wait anxiously
but keep at home; for those who hope that things will get better, and those
who cannot not stand by and wait.
We give thanks for those who believe that the world can be a better place.
We remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, trusting that
others could and would carry the torch.
We give thanks for those who were once enemies who have become
friends and allies.
We paused to remember and gave thanks.
Let us all continue to reflect and show our gratitude to those who bravely
fight for our rights and freedom.

Lisa gave a moving presentation on her life to date. Even though her life has not always been easy, she has built a life that she is very proud of. We are also very proud to have Lisa as a member of our Rotary Club and we can be assured she will continue to do great things. A quote from Lisa's presentation "It's not just about getting to the top of the mountain, it's about getting there together." We all look forward to working with you, Lisa!
