Rotary District 7040 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Presentation: Reclaiming Indigenous Images on Screen -October 7th, 2023, 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The DEI committee will again this year observe Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30th ) which honors the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities; and US Indigenous Peoples Day (October 10th ) which celebrates and honors Indigenous Americans and commemorates their histories and cultures. Jeff Sirrs spoke to us today about the "Dictionaries for Life" program. Our club has been involved with this program for 8 years. We present dictionaries to Grade 3 students at Charles H. Hulse Public School in Alta Vista. Often times, it is the first book some of these children have owned. The dictionary also gets used by siblings and parents in the household. Jeff will be looking for volunteers soon to help deliver the books to the students. He will let us know as soon as he has a firm date in place.
