Luigi introduced today’s speaker, Patti Murphy. Patti is the Executive Director of the Youth Services Bureau (YSB) Charitable Foundation.
There are 1000 – 1400 homeless youth in Ottawa.
50% come from middle and upper class families.
40% identify as being LGBTQ+
80% of youth get placed safely with the help of YSB.
YSB supports youth between the ages of 12-24 years.
YSB helps with:

Mental Health
Employment
Justice
Youth Housing
Two shelters dedicated to young people
Transitional housing available for more independent living
There are three long-term housing apartment buildings
Fall 2019, a new Youth Housing Hub is opening on Riverside Drive with support services on the ground floor

24/7 Crisis Chat Service
Walk in Clinic
Mobile Crisis Team
Counselling
Youth Employment
Provide resources, workshops and training to assist youth with employment services
Address specific employment challenges for ethnic and visible minorities, youth with disabilities and at risk youth
Match students with job placements, often their first job
Counselling
Youth Justice
Education and Training - help youth make a positive transition back to the community
Counselling – encourage youth to accept responsibility
Ongoing support services – to help reduce risk of reoffending.
