Announcements
  • Sam informed us that we received a $400 cheque from RC Brockville for our education project in Uganda.
  • President Alex gave out this year's Rotary promo pin and reminded us that next week we will continue with our strategic planning.
  • Thanks to all who participated at the Christmas Kettle at Loblaws South Keys this past Saturday. (See story below.)

Happy Bucks

Moe collected our loonies with thanks.

50/50

Scott handled the 50/50 draw; when Luigi drew Sam's ticket no one was surprised. Sam's luck didn't hold out as he drew the 4 of Diamonds rather than the Joker.

Guest Speaker

No guest speaker today, it was a scheduled meeting for club discussion. We reviewed fundraising activities and committees in preparation for our General Assembly to be held in January.

President Alex ended the meeting promptly at 1:30pm.

Ottawa South Rotary and Rotaract Meet 'n' Greet
Many members of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South and the Rotaract Club of Ottawa South met Monday night at KS on the Keys.
Many members of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South and the Rotaract Club of Ottawa South met Monday night at KS on the Keys. It was a chance for the two groups to socialize, meet members they didn't already know and celebrate the Christmas season. Those in attendance learned about upcoming activities for the two clubs and planned how they could help each other with their projects. (Stay tuned for a Trivia Night in late January!)

The Rotaract Club meets on campus at Carleton University and is comprised primarily of current Carleton students. It was started under the guidance of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South about 10 years ago, and it is now a dynamic and active club with over 20 members.

Christmas Kettle 2019
RCOS was at South Keys Loblaws Saturday helping with the Salvation Army Kettle campaign.
OC Transpo had a bus in the parking lot and oodles of volunteers filling it with brown paper bags of food for the  Ottawa Food Bank. Seeral Rotary Club of Ottawa South members flanked the Salvation Army Kettle welcoming donations. It's beginning to look like Christmas in Ottawa South.

On Saturday, December 3, from 10am to 9pm, RCOS members greeted Loblaws shoppers, welcoming, cajoling and even singing (thanks Gary and Alex) to encourage donations to the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle campaign. The store was quite busy with shoppers for most of the day and a steady stream of people passed by. Most were happy to reply with a polite hello, some gave exuberant smiles and wishes for a merry Christmas, many shoved coins and bills into the kettle, and some sped past avoiding our eyes.

This was the second year that we had a portable debit/credit machine. it was used several times, but most people preferred to deal with cash, often the change and bills they had just received from the Loblaws cashier.

Many thanks to Jacques Laquerre, Eva Hammond, Gary Pluim, Alex Davidson, Joan Hunter and Scott Vetter fro volunteering that day and to Rosemary Parker for helping to organize it.
