Announcements
  • President Alex and Scott thanked all the volunteers who helped with the National Capital Car Show. The event was well organized, but unfortunately poorly attended and rather cool so beer sales were very low. An accounting will be done by Sam and Scott. This year has set a good foundation for our involvement next year.
  • Breakfast on the Rideau: The Rotary Club of Ottawa is partnering with Operation Come Home for this annual fundraising breakfast. 7:30am on Thursday September 19 at the Horticultural Building, 1525 Prince of Wales. Tickets are $65.
    Please pass all reservations for tickets through Margot at admin@rotaryottawa.com / 613-860-1521. The Ottawa RC will retain 20% of the revenue generated by any tickets we sell.
  • Quora - Night at the Races: October 20, but notify Alex by Oct 4. A fun night to support the Shepherds of Good Hope, tickets are $70.
  • Rotary Adventures in History: Kingston clubs looking for students and sponsorship (only $200 per student)
  • Up With People: Since 1965, Up with People has empowered young people to become global citizens, community change makers, confident performers, and discover their ability to promote positive change in our one of a kind global education program. They are looking for billets for 100 participants (aged 17-29) in the Ottawa region from Ot 1 - 12.
 
50/50 Draw
Gary was not playing with a full deck when he handled the 50/50 draw. Pammy had the winning ticket, but drew the Queen of Spades. S the pot, currently at $155, continues to grow.

Clarissa Arthur, Executive Director, Education Foundation of Ottawa
 
The Education Foundation is an independent, charitable arm of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, and was started 15 years ago. One in five students needs some form of support. The Foundation is designed to help all kids succeed at school by leveling the playing field for all students regardless of socio-economic background. It is Clarissa's mission remove economic barriers  to successful learning, and to not turn down any request for assistance that the Foundation receives.
 
The Foundation has programs to help students, including: Students in Crisis Emergency Fund (warm clothing, Epi-pens, etc.), Healthy Snacks, Active Living, and Bursaries.
