Announcements

  • Good news, Mahamud Elmi has been appointed a Justice of the Peace for the Ontario Courts. Bad news is that requires him to leave his job as a Sergeant with the Ottawa Police Service and membership in Rotary. Moe is keen to remain a Friend of RCOS and attend our future events when possible.
  • David Oliver started with some French and Inukitut in his blessing for the new Rotary year and its endeavours, and well-wishes for those in need.

Happy Bucks

Many happy family get-togethers over the long weekend, children succeeding and double doses abounding.
President Dave suggested that when we are able to meet again, we pay our dollar for each meeting we attended and then hold a 50/50 draw.

Guest Speaker - Chris Meechan, Execon Solar

From his website: Howard “Speedy” Berg has been recognized for setting the world record for speed reading. He is listed in the 1990 Guinness Book of World Records for reading more than 25,000 words a minute and writing more than 100 words a minute.

Howard is a graduate of S.U.N.Y, Binghamton where he majored in Biology and then completed a four year psychology program in one year. His graduate studies at several New York City colleges, focused on the Psychology of Reading.

Howard has appeared on over 1,100 radio and television programs including Neil Cavuto, Jon Stewart, and Live With Regis. His brain-based learning strategies have been hailed as a major breakthrough in publications like Forbes FYI, Selling, Men’s Health, Red Book, and Bottom Line Magazine, and have been featured in dozens of newspaper interviews throughout North America.

Howard, with great focus and exuberance, quickly explained the basics and benefits of his reading technique, led us through a memory hack and a ritual to improve one's emotional intelligence.

Howard is a devoted Rotarian, past President and Paul Harris fellow. As such, he is on a mission to help as many people as possible, especially youth, learn to read quickly with good comprehension. He sees it as an important stepping stone to help people succeed.

Below is a link to Howard's website. He has extended special pricing to Rotarians, so if you're interested contact us for the details and special info.

Rotary Club of Ottawa South members were enthralled with Howard Berg, the World's Fastest Reader.
