Create and Connect with Vikta Paulo
Vikta delivered a brief yet impactful talk about his journey from Nairobi, Kenya, to Uganda and ultimately to Ottawa, Canada, highlighting his commitment to empowering young people through sports to achieve their aspirations. Having grown up in the Ottawa South neighborhood, he possesses a deep passion for its youth. His entrepreneurial spirit and visionary outlook make him an excellent addition to Rotary Ottawa South. We are thrilled to welcome such enthusiasm and compassion in our newest Rotarian. Thank you, Vikta, for being a valuable part of our Rotary family.

Cleaning the Capital - The Rotary Way!
For over 10 years (we've lost count), the Rotary Club Ottawa South has helped the Ottawa Rotary Home with some spring cleaning. Every spring we pick up garbage and refuse along Bank Street and Rotary Way as part of the city's Cleaning the Capital initiative. (FYI, Ottawa's Cleaning the Capital began in 1994 and has since involved over 1.5 million volunteers in nearly 30,000 cleanup projects.)
This past Saturday morning, a few intrepid Rotary Ottawa South members met to stoop, bag, pile and beautify the area a bit. We clean up the front grounds of the Ottawa Rotary Home and streetside along Rotary Way and Bank Street. It was the smallest group ever for this project, and thankfully, there was the least amount of curbside trash. There is a small housing development being built at the intersection of Bank and Rotary Way; it seems that they are doing a commendable job at limiting litter.
There was still a significant number of cigarette butts, especially around the bus stop, but nice to note that the number of butts has diminished steadily over the years. (Even when you consider the vape solution containers.) Many thanks to Julie, Bill and Scott for pitching in and picking up.
