Dictionary 4 Life
Literacy is one of the 7 Areas of Focus adopted by Rotary International. Initiated by the Rotary Club of Battersea, Brixton and Clapham in London, UK, this project has grown to include individual Rotary Clubs around the world. In 2007, about 45,000 ten year olds worldwide were happy recipients of their own Usborne Illustrated Dictionary 4 Life.
To date, 14,024 dictionaries have been presented to elementary school students in Rotary’s District 7040. (western Quebec, eastern Ontario, northern New York, Igaluit). The dictionary opens with a handy guide to the parts of speech and includes 1,000 illustrations and more than 10,000 words. What a great learning tool for these youngsters…and their older siblings and even their parents.
Rotary Ottawa South is proud to be part of this educational program. Since 2013, we have given 460 dictionaries to Grade 3 and ESL students in two schools. We continue to support this literacy project and welcome your donation to buy more dictionaries!
